A fighting style is what your character leans more to when battling against others. It's also something with which the character has some level of ease when using. In the world of Naruto, there are many Arts to choose from, and you have the opportunity of creating a character that can specialize in them.

All in all, there are Nine Arts:

* Taijutsu;
* Genjutsu;
* jutsu;
* Puppetry;
* Kenjutsu;
* Fuuinjutsu;
* Weapon Arts;
* Sensory;

Depending on your rank, you will be start with a higher level of proficiency with a certain Art and your fighting style will be better than others of lower levels.
There is a difference between characters with a Kekkei Genkai and others without one. This is an attempt to balance things between characters, giving a bonus to characters without a Bloodline Limit so that they can keep toe to toe with others.

When your character is promoted to a higher rank, he/she receives a "Minor". This "Minor" can be added as what it is, a minor knowledge of a Shinobi Art, or you can use it to enhance the knowledge of your character for a specific Art.
The order is very simple.

Minor -> Major;
Major -> Specialty.

One "Minor", when merged with another, bumps the latter to Major. Meaning that if your character had minor knowledge about Ninjutsu, now he will have major knowledge and his style will be easily oriented into using techniques of the Ninja Arts.
A "Minor", when merged with a "Major", bumps the latter to Specialty.
Your character's performance with that particular Art will be great because his fighting style focuses in it.

Note: Remember, there is a limit for "Minors" received. Every "rank up" means there is a "Minor" for you to use. This also counts for those that move from ANBU to Kage.

This is an example of how your character's Fighting Style could look like after ranking to Chuunin with all the available possibilities.

Just follow the same example when your Chuunin ranks to Jounin and you'll be just fine.
